Innovation to Impact: Understanding the Four Quadrants of Research Relevance

Quadrant-i is where we thrive—at the intersection of scientific rigor and commercial potential. It’s the center of activity where groundbreaking ideas become disruptive innovations. Our team works with faculty, graduate students, and partners to translate research into solutions that matter.

This approach is part of a larger framework that maps research across two axes: scientific relevance and commercial relevance. Some work, like Niels Bohr’s atomic research, is pure science—highly impactful but not immediately marketable. Others, like Edison’s inventions, focus on practical solutions with strong commercial value but little formal science. The sweet spot is Pasteur’s approach, where rigorous research meets real-world application to transform both science and industry.

Quadrant-i brings it all together. By combining the best of both worlds, we ensure that innovation doesn’t just stay in the lab, but makes a real impact on society.
